John E Van Alstyne

SgtMaj John Elrick Van Alstyne USMC was First Sergeant of the 1st Provisional Demilitarized Zone Police Company during Capt Clark Ashton's command. He was born March 15, 1916 and died July 14, 1988. World War II saw John Van Alstyne at Guadalcanal, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. His performance as a Platoon Sergeant in "Love" Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines at Guadalcanal earned a commission.  After WW II, he served in China. During the Korean War, he served with "Item" Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. He transferred to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve in 1961.
